Christmas Day 2011

For Christmas Day afternoon through evening, we went to Tricia and Dave's, my dad's cousins' house. Alyse brought over her baby and stroller because she couldn't go anywhere without them, but she still had fun playing with her little cousin Lauren, who is 7 months older, and she loved opening presents. Below are pictures of Alyse opening various presents.

Unlike most kids her age, Alyse loves getting new clothes, so each time she got more clothes, she was very excited. When Alyse gets new clothes she carries them around with her, even if she doesn't wear them.

Alyse loved her hat and mittens and toy. She wanted to put the hat and mittens on right away. (It was cute considering that she takes them off about 5 minutes after getting them put on.)

More clothes, and as I said, Alyse wanted to carry them around with her. :)

Alyse loved playing with her cousin Lauren, since they are the only two who are close in age to each other. Every other cousin is too much older than each of them, so it is perfect for them to hang out together.

And of course, the night could not be complete without dance time with Alyse! The older kids were playing Just Dance 3. Alyse watched and danced as the music played. She loved every minute of it!

Christmas Morning 2011

While Christmas Eve was wonderful, Christmas Day with Alyse was just as fun. It all started in the morning when she woke up to her play kitchen and high chair. Although actually, if we are being honest here, it actually all started Christmas Eve 11-12 as Ben and I set up the highchair and play kitchen. (Or as Santa put them together, wink, wink.)

The first thing Alyse did when she saw the kitchen and highchair, besides get really excited, was make sure to feed her baby. She gave her a plate and then started cooking.

Cooking was a lot of fun for Alyse. The kitchen makes bubbling noises when you put the pot on the stove and the frying pan sizzles. She was very excited about that. And of course, everything had to have a little ketchup with it since Alyse loves to dip her food.

Alyse even made sure her baby had ketchup.

Along with ketchup, Alyse made sure her baby got her other favorite food, ice cream. Yep, baby had ice cream for breakfast after Alyse slaved away in the kitchen.

Alyse even tried out the microwave. She had fun putting in different foods and then closing the door. She didn't quite comprehend the idea of pressing the buttons to time it, but I think that was mainly because the microwave didn't have realistic sounds like the stove.

And after the kitchen, Alyse went back to her Little People Animal Sounds Farm from Aunt Stacey and Uncle John. When she discovered it had sounds she was even more excited to play with it. When she was done, she stuffed all the animals and the farmer in the silo. Still not sure why.

Alyse got to open her present from us, a Duplo Legos set. There were plenty of gifts we wanted to get for her, but we thought it would be best if we started small, so hopefully when she is older she doesn't expect a lot of presents.

Alyse was excited to use the legos, she just didn't get the idea of putting them together. She would watch Ben and I put them together and then she would play with them. Alyse loved all of her presents and was happy to have some time in the morning to play with them. The first Christmas morning that Alyse was aware for was a success just like Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve 2011

So this was the first Christmas where Alyse was actually aware of what was going on. While she didn't enjoy Santa at all (see previous post), she loved the idea of Santa. She also loved getting dressed up, proving once again, that she is truly a girly girl.  :)  Her dress this year was navy with silver, and Alyse loved it! Mainly because of the sparkles. She is all about anything sparkly.  :)

Alyse was all smiles when we asked her to pose for the camera. She was just so excited to be in her sparkly Christmas dress, and to go see Nonna and Papa.

Alyse did pretty well at church. It was actually the first time she a) had been able to go to church without it interfering with her nap and b) she lasted through a whole church service without a meltdown, so it was definitely a good day. She loved the Christmas tree they had in the gym part of the church we were in. My dad and I took her to go look at it, and she loved the lights and ornaments.

Alyse let Papa walk her back to her seat. (She really just enjoyed the walking part. She loves to get up and move whenever she gets the chance.)

We attempted to take a family photo after church, but clearly, Ben and I were the only ones paying attention to the camera. Alyse was focused on Nonna and the presents awaiting her at home. At home and at Nonna and Papa's Alyse would always inspect the presents and try to sneak opening them. She really has a patience issue. I wonder where she gets that from?

Well, we finally got Alyse to smile for a family photo, but she was laughing at Nonna, so that is who she is looking at. I would still say this is a pretty good family photo. At least we are all smiling. :)

Alyse loved when she finally got to open presents. She had the most, so it was a lot of fun to see her reaction as she opened each one. This was the Little People Farm she got from Aunt Stacey and Uncle John. She loved it! Of course, I was a little too slow and didn't get her initial reaction shot. This was her face as we tried to reenact her reaction. Clearly, it didn't work. But she loves this farm and plays with it almost every day.

The top gift of the night was the baby doll Nonna and Papa gave Alyse. Aunt Jody and Uncle Scott gave her the stroller. As soon as she got the baby, she wanted to play with it, and as soon as she got the stroller, she wanted to put her baby in it. She got to push it around for a little while as the rest of us opened some presents. She loves the baby and stroller! She also loved the high chair from Aunt Jody and Uncle Scott, but we didn't have the ability to set it up at Nonna and Papa's so we waited until we got home and gave it to her with her Santa gifts.

The other gift Alyse absolutely LOVED was her pink cupcake blanket. It is a fleece blanket and is really soft. She wanted to just sit with it covering her legs as she played with her baby and stroller.

Honestly, Alyse's second Christmas was more like her first Christmas, because it was the first Christmas where she was aware of what was going on. She loved opening presents. Each toy she opened she wanted to play with right away. Ben and I got more joy out of watching Alyse open her presents than opening our own presents. She was just so excited every time.

Papa tried to get Alyse excited about Santa, but it didn't work. She was still terrified, even though it was Papa dressed in Santa's clothes. Rather than get excited and happy about Santa, she cried and said, "No Mommy." She went to Nonna right away. She wanted nothing to do with Santa. Maybe next year that will change since she will be older.

Minus the Santa incident, Alyse's second Christmas was the best so far.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Last Wednesday we had a snowstorm here in Denver. Alyse was so excited to go out and play in the snow. The last time it snowed this much, she didn't have snow mittens, so her hands got cold quick and she wanted to go inside rather quickly after getting outside. So since she had snow mittens this time, she was excited to go play in the snow. (It probably didn't hurt that she's watched a snow episode of Caillou multiple times.) She had so much fun and didn't want to come in when it was time to. Below are the photos of Alyse's fun in the snow.
So excited to start playing.

Picking up the snow

Time to direct Daddy in his shoveling...

You missed a spot.

Don't forget over there.

I love to dig in the snow.

Time to eat the snow.

Snow is the best.

Time to walk across the street.

Daddy, why are you throwing snow at me?

Getting shoveled

Onto the next patch of snow

Daddy, you pushed me in!

Helping Daddy shovel the snow.

I can do it all by myself.
I love to eat the snow.

Even if I have to bend down to eat it.

What are you talking about? I'm not cold, even if my face is red.

Playing with Daddy in the snow

I'm just walking.

I love playing in the snow. Even if it is cold out here.

Making tracks in the snow

It isn't time to go in. I'm getting away!

Time to eat the snowball I brought inside.
